There's a certain beauty to melancholy, a desire towards sadness.
It's difficult to define exactly why this is. After all, no one wants to be unhappy - yet we're quite content to consume a deluge of mournful songs from heartbroken troubadours.
Lily & Madeleine aren't old enough to know about real sadness, about real struggle. Still in their teenage years, the Indianapolis duo probably have day jobs, the type of thing which pays reasonably well but deadens the soul.
However they can certainly break our heart. Slow, soft country harmonies with a noir edge, Lily & Madeleine will release their debut LP 'The Weight Of The Globe' through Asthmatic Kitty on June 10th.
Before then, though, the pair have shot a series of films showcasing their music. Filmed in black and white, ClashMusic have obtained a performance of 'Tired' - and it most certainly mirrors out mid-week weariness.
Almost perfectly beautiful, Lily & Madeleine have that seductive sensibility which can only shatter our soul.
